Matt Elofson served in a traditional
church youth ministry setting in Southern California for almost a decade before
feeling a call to further his education. Since making that decision, he has
been led by God on an unexpected journey that included seasons of serving
tables, writing curriculum to cultivate character in children, and coaching a
women’s college basketball team. As an associate professor of practical
theology at Azusa Pacific University, he is passionate about his students
developing their attentiveness to varying cultural contexts and practices in
order that they might live out and convey their faith in a transformative
fashion that takes seriously the hopes and fears of the people to whom they
minister. While he and his wife have resided in Southern California for over
two decades, Matt was born and raised in Boston and remains a diehard Boston
sports fan.
